Stories of rags to riches often impress (or stir up jealousy) in those people aspiring to succeed in life. So, when it comes to stories of making millions from a website set up by someone else - you're probably bound to want to know more. Well, it all starts with the development of the Ebay auction site back in 1995 - and whilst I won't go in to detail on the history of the company and its upbringing, I will lay out a few major points.
As more and more people began to utilize Ebay for selling the unwanted household items, a few entrepreneurial people realized that the site could provide a selling medium for products which were once only for sale through dedicated websites. Hence, instead of forking up thousands of dollars to have a highly customized online store created - they could just list an item for a few dollars on Ebay - and reap almost the entire selling price as a profit.
This soon caught on, and the method of selling soon became a popular way to market large volumes of products at a tremendously cheap price.
A Quick Comparison:
As far as making money goes - which website is more valuable to a business? Ebay.com, or Google.com? Wow - what a question! Let's take it from the top, with a list of the benefits of each:
Google.com
- Huge user base
- Many functional features
- Huge number of money making possibilities
- Install & Forget type methodology
As wonderful as Google may be, as with more features than an upmarket sportscar, Google.com definitely takes top spot for user functionality and services provided. But is it the best place to earn money?
Ebay.com
- Huge user base
- Limited functional features (you can only buy and sell products)
- Only a few money making opportunities (profit from selling, or the ref system)
- A much more demanding and active user methodology
Look at the above list, it would appear that Google.com would take top prize for both awards. However, it doesn't. There is a fundamental difference between these two sites, and it's this:
"Ebay users are ready to spend, Google users are ready to search"
There it is right there. On Ebay, people are actually there to either buy, or sell an item. On Google - people could be there to do anything. So as far as being lucrative - Ebay.com wins hands down.
